John grew up in New Haven CT in an academic-minded family. John discovered squash by chance at age 11 and that day decided that this is what he would do with his life. By age 17 John was the US top junior player and later led his college to 2 Nationals Championships, including the only undefeated National Championship team for his school in the past 65 years. Upon graduation John entered the international pro circuit, with some minor successes but no significant championships, and overall becoming disillusioned and losing the passion he had for the game. John left the tour, got a corporate job and got married. Neither was a perfect fit, but the one remaining key skill that had propelled his squash now was an impediment - he just wouldn't give up on either and was determined to eventually win. The turning point for John was a chance encounter on a business trip with 3P practitioner Mara Gleason. Mara had missed her flight the night before, and John was the last not to get upgraded, so they were seated together and starting chatting. The conversation, as can sometimes happen when talking to a stranger, turned to frustrations in life. For the entirety of the 5-hour flight they spoke, and Mara bit by bit starting talking about thought, how the mind works, and how our own thinking can prevent us from accessing our inner wisdom. The conversation lit a fuse inside John, who went off to LaConner, WA for a four-day session with Dicken Bettinger. The process of understanding thought and trusting inner wisdom took time (and still does), but within the next few years John was able to let go of both his unfulfilling job and marriage, embrace what he truly loves, and now both teaches squash and travels the world winning 15 major championships including the US, Canadian, Italian, Czech and British Open Masters and recently winning the bronze medal at the World Masters Championships.
